Problem Statement


Problem Statement: The previous software interface was difficult to navigate, and customers often experienced confusion when trying to use data visualization features.


Goal: To enhance the user experience by streamlining data visualization features, making it easier to view the dashboard, and providing users with means to better analyze data and extract insights.


Target Audience: Fraud analysts, Bank analysts etc

UX Research


User Interview


Conducted usability testing with end users from list of clients (commercial customers) who were using the current dashboard and agreed to participate in user research.


Recruiting participants: We screened customer profiles from customer database and contacted a list of customers through email invitations to participate in UX research. Waited to hear back. After few of them replied, we requested to schedule the interview in teams (MS teams)

We did not incentivize our research


The interview process: We conducted semi-structured interviews with multiple participants over MS Teams. In total 3 interviews were conducted. Each session lasted approximately 45-60 minutes and followed this general format:

  • Introduction and explanation of research objectives (5 minutes)

  • Background questions about their role and how they currently use the platform (10 minutes)

  • Task-based evaluation where participants demonstrated how they use the current dashboard for their daily work (15-20 minutes)

  • Open-ended questions about pain points, desired improvements, and feature and capabilities (15 minutes)

  • Follow-up questions and wrap-up (5-10 minutes)

All sessions were recorded (with permission) and later analyzed for common themes and insights. We had a notetaker present during each interview to capture key observations and quotes.

Solution Design

Design Thinking Process:


Empathize: Conducted interviews and surveys with existing users to understand their frustrations and goals.

Define: Users needed a more intuitive way to interact with data. The main pain points were the software’s steep learning curve and the difficulty in identifying actionable insights.

Ideate: Several ideas were brainstormed, including simplified navigation, and interactive data dashboards that allowed users to drill down into specific data points.

Key Features Picked to Improve On:


Redesign Side Navigation: Simplified navigation within dashboards that allows users to view the specific visualizations that are most relevant to them.

Build Chart Menu: Added features for users to download or copy reports to share and present that encourage team collaboration.

Prototyping

Wireframes: Created low-fidelity wireframes focusing on the new dashboard layout and how the features can be put into design. These wireframes focused on simplifying the user flow and accessing side navigation better.

  1. Side navigation : To improve navigation clarity and usability, this wireframe introduces a combined side and top-level navigation system.

    Previously, the side navigation was either hidden or unused, which reduced its discoverability. To enhance affordance and guide users more effectively, both navigation views were made visible. The top navigation allows users to easily switch between primary sections, while the side navigation enables quick access to other apps and deeper page links.

    This dual-navigation approach simplifies movement across the interface and improves overall user flow.

  2. Menu bar for chart : Simple user-friendly menu bar was designed to help users with mundane task of interacting with individual charts.

Interactive Prototypes: Developed interactive prototypes that allowed users to test key features like charts and side navigation interaction.

Additionally, walkthrough prototype was created to include in the walk-me function.

User Testing:


Conducted usability testing sessions with data analysts and business managers to observe how they interacted with the new interface.

Key findings included:

-Users appreciated the clarity of the new dashboard

-While the contextual help was useful, some users wanted comprehensive demos.


Results & Impact


CSAT Score: Improved by 25 points from 40 to 65.

Efficiency Gains: The time to create a report was reduced by 30% on average, as users could quickly select visualizations, edit them, and generate comprehensive reports.

Challenges & Future Considerations


Challenges:

More types of charts: Some users wanted more customization options.

Data Overload: Despite improvements, users still found themselves overwhelmed with the sheer volume of data. Further filtering tools could be beneficial.


Future Improvements:

Implementing predictive analytics to guide users toward future trends based on historical data.
